A white Christmas usually means snow. At Le Méridien Maldives Resort & Spa, it means powder-soft sand, a turquoise lagoon and sunshine — and from 20 December 2026 to 10 January 2027 the resort on Thilamaafushi Island is wrapping the whole thing in a festive programme called The White Isle.

The season kicks off on 21 December with A Night to Shine, a Christmas tree lighting at the resort's Le Méridien Hub, complete with a gingerbread house, choir and live music. Christmas Eve brings La Fête de Noël, a feast at the Turquoise restaurant with live cooking stations, seafood and holiday desserts — included for guests on Half-Board, Full Board and All-Inclusive plans. On Christmas Day itself, Santa arrives over the Indian Ocean rather than down a chimney, delivering gifts to younger guests on the beach.

Families get plenty to do beyond the big days. The Family Kids Hub becomes a White Wonderland with coconut-leaf crafts and treasure hunts, while the Marine Conservation Hub runs a Mini Marine Masters programme. Evenings feature kids' night camping with storytelling and stargazing, plus guided telescope sessions with the resort's resident astronomer.

New Year's Eve is the centrepiece: Midnight in White, an all-white beach soirée with a French Riviera flavour. It starts with cocktails at Velaa Bar + Grill, moves to the sand for beachside barbecues and live cooking, then counts down to 2027 under the stars with a DJ playing into the early hours. The festivities carry on into January with Rozhdestvo Khristovo on 6 January, when guest chef Dmitry Parikov presents a dinner honouring Orthodox Christmas traditions.

Beyond the celebrations, the resort has 134 beach and overwater villas, including two-bedroom family options and a Three-Bedroom Thilamaafushi Villa with a private pool and direct beach access. Days can be spent kayaking, paddleboarding, snorkelling with turtles or diving in Lhaviyani Atoll, with padel, an overwater spa and a hydroponic greenhouse adding variety on land.

There's a financial sweetener too: a Festive Early Bird Offer for stays across the programme dates bundles all-inclusive dining at selected restaurants with USD 100 in daily resort credit. Bookings go through lemeridien-maldives.com.

For families locked into school-holiday dates or couples who want the festive atmosphere without the freeze, this is a useful template: structured festivities, kids' programming that runs all day, and a proper New Year's party — all in 30°C sunshine. Just remember flights and transfers to Lhaviyani Atoll need booking early for peak season, when Maldives resorts fill up fast.
