Niagara-on-the-Lake has a reputation to uphold. Regularly called the prettiest town in Ontario, it already leans hard into wineries, heritage streets and storybook charm — and this season it's adding a brand-new reason to visit in the colder months.

The Vintage Hotels Christmas Market is a three-day, first-year event running November 20 to 22 at The Gardens at Pillar and Post Inn & Spa, at 526 Regent Street. The setting is a big part of the appeal: the gardens were designed with Claude Monet's famous gardens in France in mind, so you get wintery, twinkly, Giverny-flavoured vibes rather than a generic parking-lot market.

Hours are 5 to 9 p.m. on the Friday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Local vendors will be selling handmade goods and gourmet food, and St. Michael's Choir provides live music — expect the whole thing to feel like a Christmas film set.

Beyond the market stalls, Vintage Hotels has stacked the weekend with ticketed food experiences. There's a sip-and-savour session, a holiday tea, and a Victorian-style Nutcracker Feast at the town's historic Prince of Wales Hotel. You can book one or all three, but each is a separate ticket costing between $59 and $95 depending on the experience. Everything happens on-site except the feast, which is hosted a short distance away at the Prince of Wales.

Why bother? Niagara-on-the-Lake is best known as a summer and wine-country destination, so a festive event like this is a good excuse to see it in a completely different mood — quieter streets, decorated heritage hotels, and nearby icewine country in its element. It also works as an easy overnight trip: you're essentially inside the hotel group's own properties, so you can check into Pillar and Post or the Prince of Wales and make a proper weekend of it. Book food tickets early; first-year events at small boutique hotels tend to sell out their nicer seatings first.
