Live music is the latest currency in Maldives luxury, and V Villas Maldives at Mirihi is cashing in. The MGallery Collection resort has booked British pianist Richard Sully — a former resident pianist at London's storied Savoy Hotel — for a residency running 4 to 9 November 2026.
Sully's résumé spans venues across Britain and beyond, and his repertoire is deliberately broad: popular songs, light jazz, classic standards and film and theatre pieces, all performed from memory. What makes the residency interesting is how it's woven through the island rather than parked in a single bar.
The week opens on 4 November with sundowner cocktails and a Lobster Extravaganza on the beach, piano included. On 5 November Sully moves to AKOYA Sea Lounge for an oceanfront evening set. The 7th takes the music off dry land entirely, with a sunset cruise aboard the Mirihi Thari Sailing Yacht. He returns for a sundowner at Muraka on 8 November, then closes with a final night at AKOYA on the 9th. Five distinct settings, one pianist — a neat template for how resorts are blending entertainment into dining and leisure rather than treating them separately.
Mirihi itself is a small Alifu Dhaalu atoll property with beach and overwater villas, oceanfront dining and the house reef and marine experiences you'd expect. Booking around the residency dates would suit travellers who want a soundtrack with their sunset without the festival crowds.
It's part of a broader live-entertainment push across Maldivian resorts. Patina Maldives in the Fari Islands has stacked its August-to-November 'Perpetual Journey' programme with a Shezad Dawood art residency, a Bayern Munich youth football camp, Yardbird Hong Kong pop-ups and a Diwali line-up featuring Michelin-starred chef Atul Kochhar, bartender Giancarlo Mancino and DJ Sakré. Ifuru Island is staging Ripple & Friends, a four-night music-and-wellness gathering from 17 to 21 September 2026, built around sunset sessions, DJ nights and an unplugged finale. And Madifushi Private Island has gone the other way with a Silent DJ lounge — wireless headsets, multiple channels and karaoke, so guests can party hard while the island stays quiet.
For anyone planning a Maldives trip in late 2026, the takeaway is that resort entertainment has levelled up. You can now pair a week of overwater-villa downtime with a West End-calibre pianist, a chef's tasting menu or a sailing-yacht concert — often at no extra stretch beyond the stay itself. Check the resort's events calendar before booking dates; these residencies are short and the marquee evenings (like that lobster-and-piano beach opener) will fill first.
