Adelaide travellers no longer need to route through Melbourne or Sydney to reach New Zealand. Qantas has restarted its seasonal nonstop service between Adelaide and Auckland for a second straight summer, and this time there's an extra flight during the busiest stretch of the holidays.
The route runs from 30 October through 26 April 2027, covering the entire southern summer. QF175 leaves Adelaide at 8.45am on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays, with the hop across the Tasman taking roughly four hours and 15 minutes — about the same time as a Melbourne–Bali flight, but landing you in a whole other country by lunchtime.
The big change for this season is the Wednesday service. From 14 December 2026 to 17 January 2027, Qantas adds a fifth weekly departure, so travellers stuck with fixed school-holiday dates have a genuine midweek choice instead of being funnelled into weekend fares. It's a sign the first season sold well enough to justify more capacity.
The flights use a Boeing 737-800 with Business and Economy cabins, and Economy Plus is bookable on this route for the first time this season. Every fare comes with 30kg of checked baggage, meals and drinks, free Wi-Fi and inflight entertainment — a solid inclusions list compared to some budget trans-Tasman options. Eligible passengers can use the Adelaide Business Lounge at departure and Qantas's redesigned Auckland International Lounge on arrival.
What makes the route worth caring about: last year's launch ended a gap of more than a decade in Qantas international flying from South Australia, so this second season confirms it's back for good rather than a one-off experiment. Qantas International CEO Cam Wallace credited strong local support for the return.
Auckland itself works well for either a quick break or the start of something longer. Waiheke Island's vineyards and beaches sit a short ferry ride from downtown, and the west coast's black-sand surf beaches are under an hour's drive away. If your trip is really about elsewhere in New Zealand, Jetstar's domestic network connects easily from Auckland to Queenstown, Christchurch, Wellington and Dunedin — turning one direct flight from home into a full South Island or North Island itinerary.
For South Australians planning a summer trip across the ditch, the practical maths is simple: a morning departure means you're in Auckland early afternoon, with same-day ferry or road options once you land. Book the December–January window early if you want the Wednesday flight, as peak-season trans-Tasman seats tend to move fast.
