Remembrance Day lands on Wednesday, November 11, 2026, and while most of Vancouver's big attractions keep their doors open, a decent chunk of the city shuts down for the day. If you'll be in town around the date — or you're a local planning errands around a day off — it pays to know the split.
The good news for visitors: the fun stuff largely stays open. VanDusen Botanical Garden, the Bloedel Conservatory and the city's parks and beaches are all running, as are Science World (entry windows from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.), the Vancouver Aquarium (10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.) and the Vancouver Art Gallery (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.). Over in North Vancouver, the Polygon Gallery keeps its usual Wednesday hours of 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Shopping and food are mostly fine too. Granville Island Public Market runs 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., so you can still get your market fix, and major malls trade reduced hours — Pacific Centre, Metrotown, Richmond Centre and Tsawwassen Mills all open around 11 a.m. and close by 7 p.m., with Coquitlam Centre wrapping up at 6 p.m. and Park Royal from 11:15 a.m. Groceries are covered by modified hours at Safeway, Save-On-Foods, Whole Foods, Superstore and the rest, Walmart trades 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., and most BC Liquor Stores open 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Getting around is straightforward: TransLink buses, SkyTrain and SeaBus run on a Sunday/holiday schedule, so service is lighter but very much alive. The catch is the West Coast Express commuter rail, which doesn't run at all, and TransLink's customer service centre and lost property office both close.
The closed list is the usual stat-holiday lineup: government buildings, public libraries, banks and post offices all shut. Pharmacies and London Drugs locations stay open on varying hours, so prescriptions are still sorted.
For travellers, the practical takeaway is simple: plan museum and market visits for the day itself and push anything official — banking, post, government paperwork — to another day. It's also worth remembering the reason for the date; many people attend Remembrance Day ceremonies in the morning, which can affect traffic around memorials and city centres.
