A Mediterranean cruise is one of the easiest ways to stack up several countries in a single trip, and a new round-up of sailings for 2026 and 2027 shows just how varied the options have become — from an 81-metre dry slide at sea to a working tall ship you can help sail into St Tropez.

For a whistle-stop intro to the region, MSC's new flagship MSC World Asia launches in December 2026 with a seven-night loop from Civitavecchia taking in Messina, Valletta, Barcelona, Marseille and Genoa from £464pp. Only one sea day, but the ship itself is the draw: 40 bars and restaurants, bumper cars, an F1 simulator and a 12-deck drop slide.

If money is no object, Explora Journeys' President's Cruise is a 12-night Barcelona-to-Lisbon sailing aboard Explora II departing 9 December 2026 from £4,080pp, with an overnight in Casablanca, five heated pools and a 1.25:1 guest-to-staff ratio. Company president Anna Nash picked the route and will be aboard.

Couples get the adults-only option: Virgin Voyages' 10-night Starry Nights in Greece & Croatia on Scarlet Lady, departing Athens on 11 July 2027 from £1,600pp. Expect the Scarlet Night party, a Korean BBQ restaurant, and stops at Santorini, Mykonos (with an overnight), Dubrovnik and medieval Kotor.

Families are covered by Royal Caribbean's Legend of the Seas, an Icon-class ship homeporting in the Mediterranean from Rome and Barcelona between April and October 2027. A seven-night sailing from £1,445pp (30 May 2027 departure) pairs Barcelona and Marseille city days with beach time in Palma, plus the largest waterpark at sea and a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory musical.

Food-focused travellers might pick Celebrity Xcel's week from Athens via Santorini, Mykonos, Kusadasi and Valletta to Barcelona, from £1,000pp on 26 June 2027 — with onboard dining designed around the route and the Magic Carpet bar suspended over the ship's side.

Two more niches round things out. Marella's Treasures of the Med, from £1,077pp departing Palma on 23 March 2026, is fully all-inclusive — meals, drinks, tips, flights and transfers — on a week through Sardinia, Naples (for Pompeii), Rome and Barcelona. And for a quieter pace, Star Clippers' Royal Clipper sails a seven-night Corsica and French Riviera route from Nice from £2,330pp on 25 April 2027, calling at small ports like Portofino and St Tropez that big ships can't reach — passengers can even climb the rigging.

Note that several of these are winter-sun or shoulder-season departures, so you get the Med without peak crowds or prices. It's a genuinely mixed bag: entry-level fares under £500 sit alongside four-figure luxury, and both big-ship entertainment and small-port sailing are represented. Whether you want Pompeii from Naples, flamenco in Barcelona or gelato in Sicily, there's a 2026 or 2027 sailing shaped for it.
