One of Sydney's busiest wedding and events venues has just had a serious interior refresh. The Epping Club, in the city's north-west, has wrapped up a multi-million-dollar refurbishment of its event spaces, and the centrepiece is a striking custom carpet designed specifically for the venue by carpet studio Modieus, working with Altis Architecture.
The design is an abstract leaf motif drawn by hand for the Club, rendered in caramel and deep burgundy. Rather than one repeat pattern, it's a family of related designs that shifts in scale and composition from room to room, tying the Ballroom, Grand Salon and Bridal Suite together while giving each its own character. It's a smart solution for a venue where the spaces vary wildly in size — the Ballroom takes up to 500 guests, the Grand Salon around 250, and the private Bridal Suite is far more intimate.
The wider refurbishment mixes things up deliberately. Altis built the palette around tones of the Australian landscape: caramel and burgundy underfoot, soft grey walls, warm timber, plus blush and green accents in the furniture. Traditional mouldings sit alongside curved forms, oversized floral graphics and contemporary lighting, with new sound and visual technology throughout. The brief, according to Altis associate Tamaryn Harris, was something timeless but not too traditional — interiors with personality that could suit every kind of celebration.
Timing matters here. The refresh lands shortly after the Club's events team was named number one in its venue category at the 2025 Wedding Industry Awards for Greater Sydney, so the venue is clearly riding a wave rather than patching things up.
