Wyndham isn't the flashiest name in hotels, but its credit card just beat the big players again. In August 2026, USA Today named the Wyndham Rewards Earner Business Card the best travel and hotel credit card of the year, chosen by points and miles experts and ranked by readers. The card has topped the annual list since 2021, holding off entries from Hyatt, Marriott, Hilton and IHG.
Why does it keep winning? The headline perk is automatic Gold status, which gets you late checkout and better room selection, plus three points per dollar on gas, dining and groceries. More unusually, there's no annual fee — only one other card in the top ten can say the same — and points can be redeemed beyond hotel rooms, including for gift cards, which makes the rewards more flexible than most hotel programs.
The welcome bonus is the real draw for casual travellers. You can earn up to 75,000 points by spending $1,000 on eligible purchases in the first 90 days and $500 at Wyndham hotels within 180 days of opening the account. That's a low minimum spend compared with rival cards, so it's realistic even if you're not putting business expenses on it. Those points could stretch to as many as 10 free nights at Wyndham's fixed redemption tiers of 7,500, 15,000 or 30,000 points per night — think beach stays at Wyndham Grand Clearwater Beach in Florida or an all-inclusive trip at Wyndham Alltra, the brand's first all-inclusive resort in Mexico. There's also a 1:1 transfer partnership with Caesars Rewards if you'd rather pool points for a Vegas play.
It's not all upside. The free anniversary night, standard and unconditional on many rival cards, requires hitting an annual minimum spend here. And while Wyndham is one of the world's largest hotel franchises, its reputation in the U.S. is mixed — two of its brands ranked in the bottom half of Islands' own comparison of 11 popular hotel chains, so it's worth checking reviews for the specific property before you book.
For travellers on a normal budget, though, the maths is hard to argue with: no annual fee, an easy-to-hit welcome bonus worth up to 10 nights, and flexible redemptions. If you've been eyeing a big-hitter card from Marriott or Hyatt with a hefty fee and steep spend requirement, this budget-friendly alternative might simply fit better.
