Move over, Miami and Orlando. Skyscanner has named Vero Beach the trendiest US destination for 2027, and the numbers behind the pick are striking: flight searches for this Treasure Coast town jumped 201% compared with 2026. Destin (No. 7) and Daytona Beach (No. 10) also made the list, but it's Vero Beach that tops it — a sign travellers are skipping the theme-park crowds for quieter stretches of sand.
So what's drawing people in? Skyscanner surveyed more than 28,000 travellers worldwide and found a shift toward meaningful, low-key trips — something Vero Beach delivers in spades. Once best known as a retirement haven, this Indian River County town now feels like an Old Florida escape: uncrowded beaches, locally owned shops, and an unhurried rhythm that makes a packed itinerary feel optional.
Days here are pleasantly simple. Catch the sunrise at South Beach Park or Jaycee Beach Park's boardwalk, then swap the sand for a stroll through Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge on the Indian River Lagoon, where pelicans, manatees, and dolphins make regular appearances. Saturdays bring the Vero Beach Farmers Market on Ocean Drive from 8 a.m. to noon — fresh produce and handmade goods just steps from local-favourite café Vero Grounds Coffee. Ten minutes inland, the historic downtown district rewards a slow wander with murals, vintage storefronts, and Mediterranean Revival architecture.
Culture is the other surprise. The Historic Downtown Arts District is full of galleries selling contemporary paintings and ceramics, and the Vero Beach Museum of Art rotates American and international exhibitions alongside workshops, lectures, and monthly events. For evenings, there's opera, ballet, and theatre at local venues, or free live concerts at Riverside Theater, rain or shine. Food-wise, don't miss Zafè'm Caribbean Restaurant, a Haitian spot with a 4.6-star Google rating serving griyo (fried pork) and ke bef (oxtail) — or one of the waterfront eateries dishing up fresh seafood at sunset.
Getting there is easier than you'd expect. Vero Beach Regional Airport (VRB) and Melbourne Orlando International (MLB) are the closest options, while Orlando International (MCO) works well if you want to pair the coast with a non-Disney city stop — rental cars are right at the terminal. For anyone tired of Florida's bustling hotspots, Vero Beach is the 2027 answer.
