The Elegant, the small cruise ship that launched VidantaWorld Voyages' entry into Europe, has just finished its debut season. The final sailing was an open-jaw route from Santander in Spain to Honfleur in France, ending on October 9, 2026, with stops along the way at Bordeaux, Saint-Malo and Rouen.
It's been a busy first year. The 1990-built, 15,396-ton vessel started sailing in April 2026 after an extensive refurbishment, then worked a varied schedule taking in the French Riviera, the Spanish coast, Portugal and the Azores, the Greek islands, the Adriatic and Italian shores. There's nothing on the books commercially for the winter — the ship will sit in a warm layup on a river in northern France, available for charters and private events — before returning to service in April 2027.
What makes this line interesting for cruise fans is the format. The refit cut guest capacity from 600 down to 216, which lets the Elegant get into small, yacht-style harbours that big ships simply can't use. The company leans into that: the 2027 programme features calls at Saint-Tropez, Monte Carlo and Cannes, alongside ports in Italy, Spain, France, Croatia and Montenegro. Sailing the quieter shoulder months of April and May is part of the pitch.
The standout sailing in the new calendar is a seven-night Greek cruise in August 2027, timed so guests are positioned directly in the path of totality for a total solar eclipse while at sea, between Kalamata and Chania. Watching totality from the deck of a 216-guest ship, away from the crowds that will pack mainland viewing spots, is a genuinely rare travel proposition.
For travellers, this is a niche worth knowing about. If you find mainstream Mediterranean cruising overwhelming — thousands of passengers, packed port towns — a 216-guest ship offering the same region feels closer to a private yacht charter than a resort at sea. The 2027 season runs through October, giving a long window to pick dates, and the small size means itineraries can shift toward weather and atmosphere rather than dock schedules. Eclipse chasers in particular should move early: cabins on special-event cruises this size tend to go fast.
With the first season now complete and a clear plan for year two, VidantaWorld Voyages looks set to become a regular fixture in European small-ship cruising.
