Thailand's annual Jay (Vegetarian) Festival runs October 10-18, and Bangkok's hotel restaurants are leaning in hard. Waldorf Astoria's Front Room is doing contemporary Thai plant-based dishes à la carte — think torch ginger salad with wild mushrooms and Siam ruby pomelo, and a southern red curry of young jackfruit and puffball mushrooms. Over at The St. Regis, Igniv Bangkok is reinterpreting its 18-plate modern European sharing menu with local influences, ending with the brand's famous Candy Store of chocolates, jellies and panforte.
More options if you're going meat-free that week: Ventisi at Centara Grand at CentralWorld has a five-dish Thai and Asian menu (taro spring rolls, coconut-galangal soup, stir-fried noodles), while Sindhorn Midtown Hotel is running vegetarian menus at two restaurants — Asian-inspired plates at Bangkok'78, and truffle-dressed potato pancakes plus vegan K-fried chicken at ANJU, its Korean rooftop spot.
But food isn't the whole story this month. On October 24, BKK Social Club at the Four Seasons Bangkok hosts the second edition of "Sálon Social: Liquid Legends", bringing six acclaimed bars — The Bellwood (Tokyo), Coa (Hong Kong), Danico (Paris), Kumiko (Chicago), Moebius Milano and Sip & Guzzle (New York) — into one room, each pouring three cocktails. For cocktail nerds, it's the city's drink event of the year.
Music fans get a freebie: Melody of Life, Thailand's longest-running free music festival, hits its 17th edition October 16-18 at Apple Central World, with spotlight sessions from La Ong Fong, Slapkiss and Tilly Birds showing how their songs go from iPhone voice memos to finished tracks.
On the wellness front, Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit's Grande Spa has opened a private treatment room with Thai brand Harnn, built entirely around white tea therapies, and Spa InterContinental is running a 75-minute hot stone and aromatherapy ritual scented with white grapefruit and French Champagne. Down the coast, Hua Hin Marriott Resort & Spa hosts chef Nacho from Luz Bangkok Tapas Bar for a four-course Spanish set dinner October 16-17.
For a longer splurge, Capella Bangkok has launched "Villa Moments" — a three-night minimum riverside villa package with daily breakfast, a private sunset cruise on a Hacker-Craft boat with champagne, and an in-villa BBQ dinner. And if you're already thinking about winter, Chatrium Niseko in Japan is offering early-season ski stays near Grand Hirafu, bookable until November 30 for stays November 28 to December 19.
The takeaway: if you're in Bangkok in October, this week in particular is packed with one-off dinners, free live music and bar takeovers. Vegetarian travellers get the richest pickings — a whole week of top hotels treating plant-based food as the headline, not an afterthought.
