Points fans have three months to move Bilt Rewards points into World of Hyatt at the current 1:1 rate. From January 1, transfers drop to 4:3, so 10,000 Bilt points will become just 7,500 Hyatt points instead of 10,000.
The change mirrors one Chase is making on its Sapphire Preferred and Ink Business Preferred cards, which also lose the 1:1 Hyatt ratio. That leaves Chase Sapphire Reserve as the main remaining 1:1 route into Hyatt. Since both Chase and Bilt are making the same move at the same time, it points to Hyatt driving the decision rather than either card program — Hyatt is effectively repricing how much it charges partners for transfers.
It's not that Bilt is pulling back on travel redemptions overall. The program recently added Amtrak as an exclusive transfer partner, with a transfer bonus of up to 125%. Bilt also maintains transfers to Alaska Airlines, another of the pricier partner programs, and covers everyone from Hilton and IHG to Virgin and Aeromexico. Hyatt was always its most expensive hotel partner — notably, there has never been a Hyatt transfer bonus, which hints at how costly the partnership is.
There's also a broader context: Hyatt award pricing has been drifting upward, and with a new five-tier redemption chart coming in, Hyatt points are likely to buy less than they used to. For many travellers, that softens the blow of the worse ratio. If you were mainly transferring Chase points into Hyatt anyway and saving Bilt points for flights, this changes little. If Bilt-to-Hyatt was your go-to move, it's time to rethink.
The practical takeaway: don't wait. Anyone sitting on Bilt points with a Hyatt stay in mind has until December 31 to transfer at 1:1 — and that includes earning more points between now and then. Transferring on the final day is a gamble; transfer systems tend to buckle under last-minute rushes, and there's no guarantee Bilt could fix a meltdown quickly. If a Hyatt redemption is on your calendar, move the points a few weeks early.
Why it matters: Hyatt remains one of the strongest hotel programs for luxury redemptions at low point prices, so a 25% haircut on transfer value is genuinely noticeable. Savvy points collectors will either transfer before year-end or shift their Hyatt strategy to Sapphire Reserve points, keeping Bilt points for airline partners where they still punch at full weight.
