A small hotel near the Rodney Bay marina in Saint Lucia has just finished a full makeover, and it now comes with a new poolside bar. Bay Gardens Marina Haven, a 35-room property in the island's north, has completed a renovation covering every guest room, the lobby, its Anchor restaurant, its conference room and a brand-new drinking spot called Knots Bar.

The room updates are the most practical part. All 35 rooms have new beds, fresh wall paint and revised décor with an updated tropical feel. That matters more than it sounds: this is a refresh aimed at where you actually sleep each night, not just the lobby photo moment. Returning guests will notice the change at check-in and again when they open their room door.

The headline addition is Knots Bar, set right beside the pool. It gives the hotel a proper social space beyond its restaurant — somewhere to have a drink before dinner or an easy evening in rather than heading into town. In a spot like Rodney Bay, where dining and nightlife options are plentiful just outside the door, having a relaxed on-site option is a genuinely useful addition.

Anchor restaurant has also been redone, with new furniture and a completely rebuilt buffet area, so both the food service and the seating have been refreshed. The Mainsail conference room got an upgrade too, which makes the property a workable choice if your trip includes a meeting or small event.

The group behind it, Bay Gardens Resorts, is Saint Lucian-owned, and the renovation is part of wider investment across its portfolio. The hotel says the improvements put Marina Haven in the 3.5-star category.

The real appeal, though, is the combination of size and location. Marina Haven sits close to the IGY Rodney Bay Marina, one of northern Saint Lucia's main boating hubs, with beaches, shops, restaurants and nightlife all within easy reach. If you'd rather use a hotel as a base — heading out to different places to eat each night, then coming back to somewhere small with its own pool, restaurant and now a bar — this fits that style of trip. It's a different proposition from a big all-inclusive resort where you never really need to leave.

Worth a look if Rodney Bay is on your list and you prefer an independent-feeling small hotel over a sprawling resort, especially now there's a fresh set of rooms and a new spot for that first vacation drink.
