Mark your calendar for Saturday, Nov. 14, 2026. For one morning only, Cineplex theatres across Canada will open their doors for free film screenings, discounted popcorn and cheap arcade play as part of the chain's 14th annual Community Day.

Here's how it works: from 9 to 11 a.m. local time, participating Cineplex locations will screen four family-friendly picks at no charge — The Lego Movie, Paddington 2, A Minecraft Movie, and Tom & Jerry. The catch is that tickets are handed out in-theatre only, first come, first served, so arrive early rather than rolling up at 10:45.

The deals don't stop at the ticket. Until 11 a.m., regular-sized popcorn, drinks and select candy will cost just $3 each plus tax. If arcades are more your thing, XSCAPE venues will offer 30-minute non-redemption playcards or tokens during the same window, while The Rec Room and Playdium will hand out one-hour game bands. Snacks there run on a similar $3-plus-tax deal until noon — expect fries and mini donuts at The Rec Room, and fries, popcorn, drinks and candy at Playdium.

There's a charitable angle too. The event raises money for BGC Canada, the country's largest child and youth development organization, which works in more than 665 communities. All day long, $1 from every concession, food, drink or game band purchase (including reloads) goes to the charity. Cineplex CEO Bill Walker framed the day as a way of bringing people together while backing the communities that support the chain.

Why should travellers care? If you'll be in any Canadian city in mid-November — a low-season window when flights and hotels are often cheaper — this is an easy, near-free morning out, especially with kids in tow. Free admission, a $3 popcorn and a warm cinema beats a rainy park any day, and the big-screen gaming venues like The Rec Room double as a fun indoor activity for the rest of a cold-weather trip.

The essentials: Saturday, Nov. 14, 2026, from 9 to 11 a.m. local time at participating Cineplex, The Rec Room and Playdium locations across Canada. Check which nearby locations are taking part before you go, and remember the free tickets can't be booked online — it's a queue-up-and-hope situation, so factor that into your morning.
