November is when Abu Dhabi properly comes back to life. The summer heat has finally eased, and the capital's events calendar has responded accordingly — with horse racing at sunset, a major handicrafts festival in Al Ain, new restaurant openings and enough weekly deals to fill your evenings for the rest of the month.

The standout new experience is Sunset at The Turf at Abu Dhabi Turf Club in Al Mushrif. Every Thursday through the season, seven races run from 5pm, spaced half an hour apart until 8pm, with food, cocktails and a DJ filling the gaps. Entry starts at just Dhs10 for general admission (Premier from Dhs80), with tickets through Ticketmaster — arguably the best-value evening out in the city right now.

Out in Al Ain, the Traditional Handicrafts Festival is marking its 12th edition at Souq Al Qattara, running daily until Wednesday, November 11. Artisans and local families demonstrate traditional crafts, with workshops, performances and games, and entry is free. It's a solid reason to look beyond Al Ain's famous oasis, and hours run from 4pm to 11pm on weekdays, later at weekends.

Saadiyat Cultural District keeps building momentum: the Zayed National Museum is running a Thursday afternoon workshop (3.30pm to 4.30pm) where kids recreate the camouflage patterns of the houbara bustard using coffee as paint, then write a message about wildlife protection. It ties into Emirati falconry heritage, though you'll need a museum admission ticket and under-12s must be with an adult.

Food and drink news is brisk. Rowley's, the cult steak-and-fries import newly opened at Yas Bay, has launched a business lunch — Angus steak, salad and unlimited fries for Dhs80, weekdays. Barbossa at Yas Bay Waterfront runs all-day Taco Tuesday (recently Dhs10 tacos and Dhs20 margaritas), while Central at the same waterfront pours happy-hour drinks until 8pm daily. For something more theatrical, Hakkasan at Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental is running an Old Fashioned takeover with Dubai's Galaxy Bar and SUSHISAMBA, plus Rosewood, Broadway and Tattū — five takes on the classic cocktail, with a special bar night on November 4 and the menu running through November 15.

If you'd rather do than eat, there's weekly quiz night at Craft by Side Hustle on Al Maryah Island (Mondays from 7.30pm, free entry, prizes including Dhs500 in Steak Night vouchers), beginner salsa and Timba classes at the Sheraton on the Corniche every Monday and Thursday at 7pm, and an open mic night for musicians, poets and spoken-word artists at The G.O.A.T on the 17th floor of Kristal Hotel on Thursday, November 5 — with 20% off for performers, teachers, air crew and medical staff.

Why it matters: if you're planning a UAE trip this winter, early November is when the weather and the social calendar align — and most of these events are cheap or free, making Abu Dhabi an easy city to enjoy without a big budget. The racing evenings and the Al Ain festival both run long enough to anchor a weekend around.
