Delta SkyMiles has launched a short award sale on Delta One business class seats, and while it is not exactly a fire sale, there are a few redemptions worth considering if you already hold Delta miles.

The promotion runs for three days, from October 27 to October 29, with discounted roundtrip award prices on Delta One routes. Travel windows vary by route but generally fall in late 2026 or early 2027, and they are narrow, so flexibility is limited. Some long-haul routes drop to 115,000 miles roundtrip at the advertised floor, though pricing swings wildly depending on where you start. One example that will not tempt many people: Miami to Tokyo at 795,000 miles roundtrip.

A few things make the maths more forgiving than it first appears. One-way awards are generally priced at half the roundtrip rate, so you are not forced to book a full return. And Delta co-branded American Express cardholders get an extra 15% off award pricing, which brings that 115,000-mile level down to just under 100,000 miles one-way — genuinely reasonable by Delta's standards.

The big caveat: do not transfer Amex Membership Rewards points into SkyMiles for this. Delta miles are widely considered one of the weakest major currencies for premium cabin redemptions, and the program deliberately prices long-haul business class awards high to keep SkyMiles revenue-based. The smarter play is only to use miles you already have.

There is also a workaround for the rest of the year. SkyMiles do have a decent floor value in economy, where redemptions track cash fares reasonably well. And if your heart is set on Delta One, award pricing is far more attractive when the trip does not start or end in the United States — think itineraries connecting between other regions. One last tip if you do book: Delta One quality varies a lot between aircraft types, so it pays to check which plane is operating your route before committing miles.

Who is this for? Travellers with an existing SkyMiles balance who have been priced out of business class redemptions in the past, and who can travel within the tight windows on offer. For everyone else, the sale is more a curiosity than a reason to stock up on Delta miles.
