October is when Dubai properly wakes up. Temperatures drop, the outdoor calendar floods back, and this year there's a bumper crop of new openings and returns to plan a trip around.

Headline news for many: Etihad Rail's passenger service between Dubai and Abu Dhabi finally launched on September 30, cutting the E11 traffic nightmare to roughly an hour between Jumeirah Golf Estates and Mohamed Bin Zayed City. Five trains run each way daily, with Wi-Fi, charging ports and guaranteed seats, from Dhs39 in Comfort or Dhs109 in Premium. It makes a two-city UAE trip far easier than renting a car.

Two big seasonal institutions reopen. Global Village kicks off its 31st season on October 14, running through to May 2027 with its usual mix of country pavilions, street food, rides and concerts (last year's entry was from Dhs25 on weekdays). And Dubai Miracle Garden opens for a 15th season on October 8, its flower sculptures joined this year by live shows and carnival booths — resident tickets from Dhs70, with a Dhs140 combo for the Butterfly Garden next door.

Food options stack up quickly. Yannick Alléno brings his omakase sushi concept L'Abysse to an overwater venue at One&Only The Palm — the fourth in the world after Paris, Monte Carlo and Osaka. Gymkhana, the London Indian fine-dining favourite, has opened in DIFC's Gate Village, while Nayara serves modern Levantine food in a lantern-lit courtyard at One&Only Royal Mirage. Ripe Market returns to Academy Park on October 10 for its 15th-anniversary season, and Global Village aside, weekend sunsets now come with options: Casita Amor (the St Tropez import, reimagined as Casita) lands at Mandarin Oriental Jumeira from October 15, and Ushuaïa's Dubai Harbour open-air venue opens its third season with Black Coffee on October 24.

Families and active travellers get plenty too. AllSports in Al Quoz claims the UAE's largest indoor arena — 250,000 sq ft with padel, squash, climbing, a pool and studios. Splash 'n' Party has a new kids' water park branch in Dubai Hills (Dhs120 per child), free open-air Cinema Under the Stars runs every Saturday in JLT Park, and new eco-luxe glamping site Caravan Hatta puts 50 Airstream trailers in the Hajar mountains from Dhs1,130 a night with breakfast.

If you're the kind of traveller who likes to try a city's newest thing rather than its oldest, October 2026 in Dubai offers an unusually dense line-up — from a Dhs399 floating paddleboard class at a Downtown infinity pool to clay shooting at a new Dhs300 million sports club in Jebel Ali. Pick two or three, book ahead, and do the rest by train.
