The Yellowstone spin-off Dutton Ranch may be set in the fictional town of Rio Paloma, Texas, but nearly everything you see on screen was shot within an hour's drive of Fort Worth and Dallas. With Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser back as Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler, the series trades Montana's mountains for Parker County pastures and North Texas small towns — and fans can visit almost all of it.
The ranch itself is the Saunders Ranch near Weatherford, a working family operation dating to 1934, known for performance horses and rodeo livestock. The show's grand 10 Petal Ranch is South Creek Ranch near Ferris, a 5,400-acre spread south of Dallas whose centrepiece is the Tall Oaks mansion, once home to Trinity Industries CEO W. Ray Wallace.
Rio Paloma's day-to-day locations are scattered across the region. The gas station is Tommy's on the edge of Mineral Wells; the Split Heart Bar is the Roughnecks bar in Rio Vista, a town of about 1,000 people south of Fort Worth. The local high school is really E.M. Daggett Middle School in Fort Worth, and rodeo scenes were shot at Reunion Grounds in Granbury, home of the Hood County Stampede. Even the 'Montana' motel in episode two is a budget hotel in Cleburne, where the horse auction scenes were also filmed.
Dallas and Fort Worth handle the city scenes. Beth drives past the Old Red Museum downtown before pulling up to Hôtel Swexan, the Swiss-meets-Texas boutique hotel in the Harwood District opened in 2023 — its upscale steakhouse Stillwell's doubles as the series restaurant. Joaquin shops for boots at Wild Bill's Western Store in Dallas, the Chicago office building is actually KPMG Plaza in the Dallas Arts District, and the 1981 flashback was filmed at Billy Bob's Texas, the Fort Worth honky-tonk that calls itself the world's largest, housed in a 1910 cattle barn. The finale's 'Mexico' chapel sits at La Palmilla Texas Hotel outside Glen Rose.
For fans, this is a rare spin-off where the whole map is drivable in a weekend: base yourself in Fort Worth, loop out to Weatherford, Cleburne, Granbury and Glen Rose, and you'll tick off the ranch, the bar, the rodeo grounds and the honky-tonk. Budget travellers take note — the Landmark Lodge motel that appears on screen runs about $40–80 a night. Source: Atlas of Wonders
