Emirates Skywards has come up with one of the more unusual loyalty promotions we've seen: members earn a bonus mile for every single minute they spend in Dubai. A day in the city works out to 1,440 miles, and the math scales up from there.

The promotion runs on a strict schedule. Tickets must be booked between October 21 and November 5, 2026, for travel between October 21 and December 13, 2026. Registration is required, and while any Skywards member can sign up, the fine print matters. Your ticket has to originate outside the UAE, be a round trip booked directly with Emirates or flydubai, and be mileage-eligible — so award tickets are out. Your time in Dubai must fall somewhere between 24 hours and 30 days.

The clever part is how flexible the stay can be. You don't have to make Dubai your final destination. An extended stopover counts — say, New York to Dubai to Delhi — as long as the ticketed itinerary shows your time in the city. Emirates calculates the miles from the booked schedule, so it pays to plan a proper layover rather than a rushed connection.

There is, of course, a ceiling. Each member can earn a maximum of 7,200 bonus miles, which you'll hit after exactly five days in Dubai. Linger for a month and you won't earn anything beyond that cap, so the sweet spot is a short stopover or a long weekend rather than an extended stay. Five days in Dubai for 7,200 bonus miles is a decent top-up on top of whatever the flights themselves earn.

The promotion fits a broader pattern. Emirates has long acted as a flag-bearer for Dubai's tourism economy, and it already runs the "My Emirates Pass" scheme, where your boarding pass unlocks discounts at retailers across the UAE. This mile-a-minute offer is another nudge to get travellers on the ground, not just transiting through the world's busiest long-haul hub.

One caveat worth knowing: the timing comes shortly after the US Department of State issued a Level 3 advisory for the UAE, urging travellers to reconsider visits. That's a personal call — plenty of people travel to Dubai comfortably — but anyone weighing the promotion should check current government guidance before booking.

For frequent flyers with a 2026 trip already in mind that routes through Dubai, this is essentially free miles for time you'd spend anyway. Register during the booking window, ticket directly with Emirates or flydubai, and make sure the stopover is at least 24 hours. If you were going to connect through DXB regardless, five days on the ground is the maximum useful stay — after that, the clock stops paying.
