Emirates has revived one of its stranger promotions: earn frequent flyer miles simply for existing in Dubai. The airline is offering one mile per minute spent in the city — capped at 7,200 miles, or five full days of earning. You rack up miles while sleeping, eating breakfast or floating in a hotel pool.
The deal is aimed squarely at travellers who would otherwise just connect through Dubai International and fly on. To qualify, you must register and book between October 21 and November 5, 2026, with travel completed by December 13. The trip has to be an eligible Emirates or flydubai roundtrip starting outside the UAE, booked by someone who lives outside the country, and the ticket must earn Skywards miles — award tickets don't count.
Once in Dubai, your stay needs to be at least 24 hours and no longer than 30 days, whether Dubai is your final stop or a stopover. Miles accrue at 1,440 per day based on your scheduled arrival and departure times, with the first 7,200 credited within a month of your stay. Two caveats worth knowing: only your first eligible stay counts, and the bonus doesn't stack with other mileage promotions — you get whichever payout is higher.
Is it worth changing your plans for? Probably not. As one frequent flyer commentator pointed out, 1,440 Skywards miles doesn't justify adding a hotel night, and whether to visit the region is a decision that shouldn't hinge on a mileage bonus of this size. The real value is for travellers already planning a Dubai trip with a stopover of a few days — the miles become a nice freebie on top.
There's history here. Emirates ran essentially the same promotion in August 2021 to draw visitors during Expo 2020 and the UAE's fiftieth anniversary, though the cap back then was 5,000 miles. Time-based mile earning has produced odder schemes still: in April 2020, Thai Airways rewarded people for staying home, with an app tracking participants and paying one mile for every four hours spent within about 100 metres of their house — a whole six miles a day.
For travellers, the takeaway is simple. If a Dubai stopover is already on your itinerary for late 2026, registering is free money — up to 7,200 Skywards miles for doing nothing differently. Skywards miles are handy for Emirates award seats and upgrades, and five days in Dubai gives you time for the desert, the old city and the beaches without rushing. Just diarise the booking window: miss it, and the minutes you spend in Dubai will be worth nothing but memories.
