Zagreb's grandest square is getting an Italian makeover. From 25 to 27 September, King Tomislav Square — the leafy plaza facing the city's main railway station — will host Croatia's first ever Ferrari Lounge, putting the Maranello marque's cars on show in the middle of the capital's historic Lower Town.
The three-day event runs Friday through Sunday and is open to the general public, not just well-heeled collectors. Visitors can get up close to the current Ferrari line-up without needing a dealership appointment or an invite. For a brand usually wrapped in exclusivity, it's an unusually open door.
The project is the work of Croatian entrepreneur Robert Bajs, who has spent years building a relationship with Ferrari's headquarters in Maranello and has previously introduced new Ferrari models to customers across the region. The Zagreb lounge is the first of its kind in the country.
The choice of venue is part of the story. Rather than a showroom or exhibition hall, Ferrari is setting up in one of Zagreb's most recognisable public spaces — the square opposite Glavni kolodvor station, framed by 19th-century architecture and the Art Pavilion. City officials have been leaning into this kind of thing lately: central Zagreb has increasingly been used as a stage for international automotive, fashion, tech and cultural events, and the Ferrari arrival fits that pattern.
Why should a traveller care? If you're in Zagreb in late September, it's a free spectacle in a square you'd probably stroll through anyway — a good excuse to pair it with coffee at one of the terraces around the Lower Town. More broadly, it's a sign of where Zagreb is heading: a capital that's quietly becoming a host city for premium brand events, alongside its better-known draws like the Christmas markets and the Museum of Broken Relationships.
Timing-wise, late September is one of Zagreb's nicer windows — summer crowds have thinned, the weather is still mild, and the city feels lived-in rather than touristy. Even if supercars aren't your thing, King Tomislav Square is a natural starting point for exploring the Lower Town's parks, cafes and museums.
