Portugal is back on the Formula 1 map. The FIA Formula 1 World Championship has confirmed a Portuguese Grand Prix at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve in Portimão, scheduled for June 18–20, 2027 — with the circuit also locked in to host again in 2028. For fans who have been flying to Spain or Monaco for their Mediterranean race fix, this puts a Grand Prix squarely in one of Europe's most beloved beach regions.
The economic expectations are big. Turismo do Algarve president André Gomes has projected hundreds of thousands of visitors across the race days, a huge global TV audience, and roughly €150 million in economic impact flowing to hotels, restaurants, transport, retail and suppliers across the region. In practical terms, that means the Algarve's summer season will kick off with a roar — and accommodation near the track will get snapped up early.
Tickets went on sale September 21, and hotel options around Portimão are already being lined up. A few standouts from the race-weekend shortlist: a 4-star resort about 20 minutes from the circuit with ocean views, pools and a shuttle service; a 5-star Relais & Châteaux property set in a Moorish-style mansion roughly 30 minutes away; and the cliffside Tivoli Carvoeiro Algarve Resort, also around 30 minutes out, with six restaurants and bars including a rooftop sky bar.
Happy to go further afield for more luxury? W Algarve in Albufeira sits about 40 minutes from the track, with a beachfront setting, plunge pools in the top suites and the brand's signature WET Deck. Golf lovers have an obvious pick in Penina Hotel & Golf Resort — three courses on site and just 15 minutes from the circuit. And for a proper splurge, the Conrad Algarve (a bit under an hour away) brings 18th-century palatial styling, multiple outdoor pools, a vast spa and Michelin-starred dining at Gusto by Heinz Beck.
Who should care: F1 fans who like their race weekends with a beach attached. June in the Algarve means warm sea temperatures, long evenings and all the region's golf courses, seafood restaurants and cliff-backed coves within easy reach — so you can build a full holiday around the race rather than treating it as a pit stop. Just don't leave booking late; with the region expecting a major influx, the best rooms near Portimão will go first.
