Dubai's beachfront dining and wellness scene is about to get a Spanish-heavyweight upgrade. Meliá Hotels International will open J1 Hotel, a Gran Meliá property, on the Jumeirah 1 shoreline in the fourth quarter of 2027 — the Spanish group's first Gran Meliá flag in the UAE and its third Dubai hotel overall, alongside Meliá Desert Palm and ME Dubai.
The hotel takes its name straight from its location, and the setting is the main draw: 366 rooms and suites facing the Arabian Gulf and the Dubai skyline, 40 of them with private pools, all backing onto a 140-metre private beach. Four swimming pools, landscaped grounds, retail space, a ballroom, meeting facilities and a fitness centre round out the basics.
But J1 is really being pitched as a restaurant destination. Zuma Beach House will be the first beachfront outpost for the brand in the Middle East — only its second lifestyle venue anywhere after Mykonos — pairing izakaya-style Japanese food with a pool, lounge and bar. Park Chinois, born in Mayfair, brings a 1930s Shanghai-glamour after-dark act to the rooftop, while Novikov Restaurant & Beach Club adds a Mediterranean concept with a semi-private beach, bar and cabanas. Newer names include Jul's, fresh off opening its London flagship, and Tala, which mixes Riviera design with the feel of an Arabic majlis. An all-day dining option completes the line-up.
Wellness gets more than the usual hotel spa treatment too. The rooftop will house Journée Wellbeing, run by Waring Wellbeing Hospitality, blending Mediterranean-style relaxation with Dubai's beach setting. Expect Aufguss sauna ceremonies from 432 Social Wellbeing, group Reformer Pilates with Jeju Pilates, visiting practitioners and social sessions — a more programme-driven take on hotel wellness.
Why it matters: Jumeirah 1 sits between the marina buzz and Downtown's towers, and this stretch of beach has been quietly building a serious hospitality line-up. If Gran Meliá delivers on the roster it has announced, J1 could become one of the few Dubai hotels where the food and wellness programme alone justify the booking — useful to know if you like your beach stay with proper restaurant reservations. Rooms open for late 2027, so anyone planning a Dubai trip around the opening should watch for booking windows in mid-to-late 2027.
