Hilton Honors is running its most generous points sale to date: a 120% bonus on purchased points. For every 1,000 points you buy, Hilton tops you up with 1,200 more — more than doubling your balance. Previous sales capped out at 100%, so this is a first for the program.

The maths are straightforward. Points normally cost one cent each, but with the bonus that drops to 0.45 cents — a 55% discount. The deal applies from a low threshold of just 5,000 points ($50 buys you 11,000), and you can purchase in 1,000-point increments up to 240,000 before bonus (528,000 total). That's also the annual cap for calendar-year purchases during the promo. Be aware the offer may be targeted, so your bonus percentage and deadline could differ from the headline terms. For most members the sale ends Nov. 21.

So should you buy? The usual advice holds: don't hoard points speculatively. Hilton Honors points are valued at roughly 0.4 cents each, so paying 0.45 cents isn't a bargain on its own — and points expire after 24 months of inactivity. Purchases are also nonrefundable.

Where the deal shines is when you already have a specific redemption in mind and the cash rate is high. Take a New Year's Eve stay at Motto by Hilton New York City Times Square: an award night costs 150,000 points. Buying the full balance with the bonus would run about $690, versus $814 in cash — a saving of $124.

The savings scale up nicely with Hilton's fifth-night-free perk for elite members. A five-night stay at The Morrison Dublin, Curio Collection by Hilton over St. Patrick's Day week would cost around €1,855 in cash, or about 280,000 points. Buying those points at the bonus rate costs roughly $1,280 — nearly $600 off.

The practical playbook: check both cash and award pricing for your exact dates first, since award space can vanish and purchases can't be undone. If the numbers work, buy and book quickly. And put the purchase on a card that earns well on this kind of spend to squeeze out extra value. If you have no Hilton stays on the horizon, skip it — but for travellers with a big redemption planned at an expensive property, this is one of the rare points sales worth acting on.
