Dubrovnik's limestone streets have another gig. Apple TV's new action thriller Disavowed, starring James Marsden, is currently filming in the Croatian city, confirmed by mayor Mato Franković. The series comes from writers Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, the duo behind Iron Man and Uncharted.
Marsden plays Brad Griffin, a veteran CIA case officer who gets abruptly cut loose from the agency while hunting an assassin who killed his colleague. With the trail going cold inside the intelligence world, Griffin goes rogue, chasing his target solo while a $15 million federal bounty hangs over the assassin's head. No release date has been announced yet.
For Marsden, it's a busy stretch. He's known to most as Cyclops from the X-Men films and Tom Wachowski in the Sonic the Hedgehog movies, and recent TV work includes playing President Cal Bradford in Paradise, Owen Ashe in Your Friends & Neighbors, and a fictionalised version of himself in Jury Duty.
Dubrovnik has quietly become one of Europe's most reliable filming backdrops. The Old Town famously doubled as King's Landing in Game of Thrones, and Star Wars: The Last Jedi used it as the casino city Canto Bight. Robin Hood shot here in 2018, and more recently Netflix's Outer Banks filmed its fifth and final season in the city — production kicked off in October 2025, using Stradun, the city walls, the Jesuit Stairs, Mount Srđ and Lokrum Island.
Why should travellers care? If you've been putting off a Dubrovnik trip, expect the next few years of film and TV releases to feature its medieval walls and Adriatic coastline heavily — and expect crowds to follow. The city is compact, so even during filming you can walk the same locations: the Stradun promenade, the Jesuit Stairs (the site of Game of Thrones' infamous walk of shame), and the cable car up Mount Srđ for the best view over the terracotta rooftops. A short boat ride gets you to Lokrum Island, with its botanical gardens and peacocks. Visiting before the series airs means seeing these spots without the fan pilgrimage that tends to follow a big streaming release.
