Alberta's biggest little holiday shopping tradition is back. The Millarville Christmas Market returns for eight days in November 2026, spreading more than 300 vendors across the grounds of the Millarville Racing and Agricultural Society, a short 40-minute drive southwest of Calgary.

The market has been running since 1988, so it's older than a fair few of its shoppers. You'll find handmade goods, Christmas decorations, jewellery and clothing, plus food trucks, face painting and photos with Santa. It's part market, part small-town Christmas day out.

The sweetest detail is the Kids Only Shoppe, aimed at children aged five to 12. Elves help young shoppers pick gifts for their family, all priced at $15 or under, and over 80 per cent of the items are handcrafted, locally made or donated by vendors. Everything gets wrapped on the spot, so parents stay surprised until Christmas morning.

This year's market runs over two weekends: Thursday, November 5 to Sunday, November 8, and Thursday, November 12 to Sunday, November 15, 2026, open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $8 for anyone 12 and up, with kids under 12 free. Tickets are sold online (you pick a date and time slot, then can stay as long as you like) or at the door.

Practical notes for anyone braving an Alberta November: much of the shopping happens in four heated indoor spaces — the Arena, the Hall, the Quonset and a large tent — but some vendors and activities sit outside. Dress in warm layers and expect the ground to be muddy if the weather turns. Parking on site is free but fills up quickly, especially on weekends, so arrive early.

For visitors, this pairs neatly with a Calgary city break — combine a day of artisan gift hunting in rolling ranch country with the city's restaurants and museums, or time your trip around other winter events in the foothills. It's a low-cost, genuinely local alternative to the big-city market circuit, and a solid excuse to get your holiday shopping done before December even starts.
