A familiar landmark in the Canadian Rockies has a new badge. Rimrock Banff has reopened after an extensive redesign as the debut North American property in Emblems Collection, Accor's curated luxury brand. It's a notable step for the young collection, which until now has focused on European addresses, and a fresh chapter for one of Banff's best-known hotels.
The resort sits inside Banff National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site covering more than 2,500 square miles of protected wilderness. Built into a mountainside high above the town of Banff, its terraced structure steps down towards the Bow Valley, and the redesign leans hard into that setting: wide windows, natural stone, warm wood and tactile textiles, with beds and seating arranged so the Rockies are always the focal point.
There are 320 rooms, including 57 suites. The pick is the Infinity Two-Bedroom Suite, which opens onto a wraparound terrace of more than 1,260 square feet with a barrel sauna, a fire table and full-on park views. Wellness Studio suites add recovery-focused amenities, wellness minibars, sleep-friendly touches and access to an Expeditions programme that lends guests outdoor gear.
The headline addition for many travellers will be the 9,600-square-foot Bathhouse, billed as Banff's first luxury hydrothermal spa. It stacks an indoor-outdoor mix of vitality and hot pools, a mountain-facing infinity pool, salt sauna, aromatic steam room and glacial cold plunges, plus a suspended meditation room and an Aurora sensory room. A separate 3,800-square-foot Active Centre covers the energetic side with Technogym and Peloton kit, climbing and bouldering walls and guided classes.
The project is a joint effort between Accor and Oxford Properties, which owns the hotel and frames the transformation as part of its commitment to Canada's landmark park hotels. Emblems CEO Maud Bailly called the property a natural first North American address for the collection, citing its character and deep ties to the destination.
For travellers, the appeal is straightforward: a reimagined luxury base with serious spa credentials in one of North America's most spectacular parks, within easy reach of Banff town, Lake Louise and the Icefields Parkway. If your trip revolves around hiking in summer or skiing at Sunshine Village and Lake Louise in winter, the gear-lending programme and thermal recovery setup are a genuinely useful combination rather than just hotel garnish.
