Singapore Airlines has made its airport concierge service permanent for first class and Suites passengers departing from Singapore Changi, following a successful trial. The idea is simple but significant: someone is now looking after you from the kerb all the way to your seat on the plane, closing a gap in an otherwise top-tier product.
Here's how it works. On arrival at Changi, a porter takes your bags so you can head straight to the first class check-in area, where you're met with chilled hand towels while staff handle the formalities. From there, an escort walks you through immigration to The Private Room, the airline's most exclusive lounge space.
The concierge stays useful while you wait. They can monitor your flight, sort out rebooking if things go wrong, and field shopping requests. When boarding time comes, you're driven to the gate in a golf cart where possible, helped past the queue, and walked down the jet bridge to the aircraft door. You even get to choose whether to board first or last — a small touch that frequent flyers will appreciate.
The reason this matters: at Changi's Terminal 2 and Terminal 3, security is handled at each individual gate. That used to mean first class passengers queued like everyone else for the least glamorous part of the airport experience. Having someone smooth that step out genuinely changes how the journey feels door to door.
It's fair to say Changi is already one of the world's most efficient airports, so nobody would call this essential. But first class is a competitive arena, and the contest has shifted from just comfort in the air to how little friction there is on the ground. Singapore Airlines' onboard product and lounges were already strong — this rounds out the weak link.
The timing looks deliberate. The airline has a new first class product due in 2027, and it's been rolling out soft upgrades across cabins, from refreshed dining to new amenities. Consider this concierge service part of a broader push to sharpen the premium experience ahead of the new flagship seat arriving.
For travellers, the takeaway is that Singapore Airlines' most expensive tickets now include genuinely end-to-end pampering at its home hub. If you're redeeming miles or splashing out on Suites Class or 777 First Class, expect a porter, a fast-track path through the airport, a dedicated concierge in The Private Room, and a golf cart ride to the aircraft. It won't make headlines the way a new cabin does, but it's exactly the kind of detail that separates a great first class from a merely good one.
