Bangkok's cocktail crown hasn't moved. Dry Wave Cocktail Studio was named the best bar in Thailand for the third year running at the Bangkok Bar Show Awards, held on October 26 at the Sindhorn Kempinski Hotel in the capital, and its head bartender picked up the night's biggest individual prize too.

The 2026 edition of Thailand's 20 Best Bars keeps the top of the list familiar. BKK Social Club, the glamorous bar inside the Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok on the Chao Phraya River, climbed one spot to number two, while Bar Us held third. G.O.D. (Genius On Drugs) and Last Call complete the top five. The rest of the top ten is a blend of Bangkok institutions and newer players: Opium, Bar Sathorn, Firefly Bar, Vesper and Asia Today.

Beyond the headline rankings, the awards singled out venues across the country. Zuma took Best Restaurant Bar, Cherry Olive Cocktail Bar was named Best New Bar, Tax Bar won for Menu Design, and Mod Kaew Wine Bar claimed Best Wine Bar. The regional categories matter for travellers heading beyond the capital: Bar.San won Best Bar in Chiang Mai, and Garnish Samui took the Phuket/Samui title. The Norm was recognised as Best Rooftop Bar.

Dry Wave had a big night overall, also collecting Bar Team of the Year, with Supawit "Palm" Muttarattana named Bartender of the Year 2026. BKK Social Club won the Art of Hospitality Award, and Tamaryn Cooper was named Emerging Bartender of the Year.

The list, announced annually as part of the Bangkok Bar Show, is the closest thing Thailand has to a national bar guide, mixing hotel glamour, hidden speakeasies and neighbourhood haunts. For anyone planning a trip, it doubles as a ready-made itinerary: the top 20 is dominated by Bangkok, where you can realistically hit several top-ten bars in one evening, but the regional winners give solid reasons to book a cocktail in Chiang Mai or on Koh Samui too.

Practical notes for bar-hoppers: the top spots get busy, and places like BKK Social Club or Dry Wave reward an early arrival or a reservation. Bangkok's nightlife runs late — most cocktail bars serve well past midnight — and smart-casual dress is the norm at hotel venues. Budget-wise, expect craft cocktails in the range a Bangkok night out demands, still notably cheaper than equivalent drinks in Hong Kong, Singapore or Tokyo.

Whether you're building a whole trip around the country's drinking culture or just want one guaranteed-good nightcap, the 2026 list is a useful map of where Thailand's bar scene is heading — and, for now, that's straight back to Dry Wave.
