Six Senses Laamu has unveiled 17 new overwater villas, the first phase of a multi-year refurbishment of one of the Maldives' most conservation-minded resorts. Bookings open for stays from 6 December 2026, with entry rates from USD 2,185 per night for an Ocean Water Villa Suite with Pool.

The new stock spans four categories: Ocean Water Villa Suite with Pool, Laamu Water Villa Suite with Pool, Horizon Water Villa Suite with Pool and — genuinely new for this resort — the Family Water Villa with Pool. That last one is the headline change for parents: it includes a separate children's bedroom with its own adjoining bathroom, so families get proper privacy instead of a sofa bed. All four categories come with expanded interiors, dedicated seating and dining areas, extra wardrobe space and generous outdoor decks.

The hardware is where these villas earn their rate. Every unit has an 18-square-metre private pool, an overwater hammock, upper-deck lagoon views and a bathtub positioned to face the ocean. The Horizon suite is oriented specifically for uninterrupted horizon views, while all villas get panoramic windows over the water.

Design-wise, the interiors lean on a coastal palette of whites, neutrals and lagoon blues, with driftwood coffee tables and handcrafted hanging lamps. The nicest touch is a textured surface pattern modelled on a turtle shell — a nod to the hawksbill and green turtles that live in the surrounding waters and to the resort's long-running marine conservation work. Guests in the family villas can sign kids up for the Junior Marine Biologist programme, which pairs well with the resort's house reef.

The villas are just the opening move. Six Senses Laamu says further upgrades to accommodation and shared facilities will follow over the coming years, with the existing environmental programmes and house reef staying put throughout.

Also worth knowing from the Maldives this month: .Here Baa Atoll, a nine-residence retreat split across two private islands called Somewhere and Nowhere, took three titles at the World Luxury Hotel Awards 2026, including World's Best Luxury New Resort. Milaidhoo Maldives' overwater Serenity Spa won Best Hotel Spa at the Condé Nast Johansens Awards 2027, credited for its personalised programmes and kit ranging from the LYMA Laser to cupping therapy. And JOALI is gifting returning VIP guests original NFT artworks generated from the resort's own geographical coordinates — collectible, tradeable and oddly sentimental.

Why it matters: if Six Senses Laamu has been on your list but the old villa stock felt dated or the resort didn't cater to families, the December 2026 relaunch changes both equations in one go. Book early for the festive season window — new room categories at flagship Maldivian resorts tend to sell out fast once rate cards go live.
