One of the Maldives' biggest resort islands is swapping beach-bum clichés for dragons, warriors and Viking seas. Siyam World, part of Sun Siyam's Lifestyle Collection, launches its festive programme — 'The Age of Legends' — on 15 December, weaving a loose fantasy narrative inspired by the likes of Game of Thrones, The Lord of the Rings, The Witcher and Vikings across the island, with guests folded into the storyline rather than left on the sidelines.
The headline grabber for families is football. Nemanja Vidić, the former Manchester United and Serbia captain, runs a training camp from 18 December focused on skills, confidence and teamwork. From 25–27 December, ex-AC Milan and Italy striker Alessandro Matri takes over the pitch for three more days of coaching. For football-mad kids, training with a Champions League winner beats any kids' club.
There's local flavour too. On 21 December, the resort stages an original musical based on Dhonhiyala and Alifulhu, one of the Maldives' best-known folk tales of love, courage and destiny — a nod to the fact the islands had legends long before fantasy franchises did. Christmas Eve brings a mysteriously choreographed arrival from 'a certain Legend' from the North who wears red, and New Year's Eve is the big set piece: four fantasy worlds colliding at midnight, with the details deliberately kept secret until the night.
Younger guests get the Dragon Rider Academy at Kidz World, a training ground of games and challenges for aspiring dragon riders. Adults, meanwhile, can enter the Share Your Siyam Legend Challenge by posting a Reel or carousel of their resort moment with #ShareYourSiyamLegend and #AgeOfLegends — the most imaginative entry wins a seven-night stay for two, including the resort's WOW! Inclusive package, taxes and return seaplane transfers. One more 'legend' in the line-up is still unrevealed, teased via the resort's social channels.
Why it matters: all-inclusive Maldives resorts can blur together, and Siyam World — already known for its huge, activity-heavy format — is leaning hard into entertainment as a differentiator. If your idea of a festive break involves kids who want structure and spectacle, celebrity sports coaching, and a New Year's Eve with actual theatre to it, this is a genuinely different proposition from the usual quiet-luxury island. Elsewhere in the Maldives this month, Hideaway Beach Resort & Spa hosted its second destination running event with 68 runners over 5K and 10K routes, and The Westin Maldives Miriandhoo installed 100 Reef Stars and 1,500 coral fragments on its house reef — a restoration area guests can snorkel over and watch develop.
