The circus is a fixture here and returns again this year, with three shows: 8.30pm on Friday, then 4pm and 8.30pm on both Saturday and Sunday. If you're travelling with kids, the afternoon slots are the obvious pick. The giant wheel comes back too, along with the usual mix of thrill rides and gentler attractions.
Beyond the rides, there's a food and drink area plus street vendors — expect the sort of fairground fare that pairs well with a warm October evening — and stands from local organisations, businesses and public bodies, which give the event a properly local feel rather than a pure tourist setup. Every night ends with live music from local and national acts, so the fair stays lively well past dark.
Practical details matter if you're planning an evening here. Opening hours stretch from 6pm to 1am on the Friday, midday to 2am on Saturday and Sunday, and midday to 1am on Monday — so the weekend gives you a full afternoon-to-late-night window. There are ATMs on site, standard security, and Tavira Council runs its municipal Sobe & Desce shuttle service to get visitors to and from the venue, which removes the parking headache.
Why bother? Tavira itself is worth the trip — a low-rise eastern Algarve town of churches, a castle and river views, quieter than the resort strips further west. Early October is a sweet spot: summer crowds have thinned, the sea is still warm, and the fair adds an evening's entertainment you won't find in the guidebooks. Time a visit around October 2-5 and you get the town at its most atmospheric, ferris wheel lights and all.
