Mayfair has a new boutique address. The Shepherd Mayfair has opened at 2 Stanhope Row in Shepherd Market, an 82-room hotel from a joint venture between Bain Capital and Orka Investments that spreads across six floors and roughly 33,600 square feet.

The name and location carry real history. The hotel sits on the site of The Cottage, the oldest house in Mayfair, dating back to 1618 and once home to a literal shepherd with his flock. Developer Edward Shepherd later rebuilt the whole area, giving both Shepherd Market and the hotel their names.

Inside, there are 70 rooms and 12 suites, from standard and superior rooms up to the larger Shepherd and Mayfair suites, many with window seats. The design leans on adaptable furniture: desks that flip into dressing tables, console tables that turn into chessboards, and integrated storage that keeps things tidy. Bathrooms come in marble with bespoke Floris London amenities.

Food and drink are already running in two venues. Fayre serves breakfast, lunch and dinner with British favourites and European classics, while The Lounge works as an all-day café and bar with an outdoor terrace and a street-facing hatch for grab-and-go. A late-night cocktail bar called Teddy's is due to open in November.

There's a wellness angle too. Minibars stock products from Italian clinical skincare brand Miamo, with full sizes available at the front desk, and guests can book 20-minute EMS personal training sessions with E-Pulsive in their own suite. The concierge can arrange more conventional personal training as well.

For travellers, this is a convenient spot in one of central London's most desirable neighbourhoods. Shepherd Market sits between Piccadilly and Curzon Street, a short walk from Green Park and the shops of Mount Street, so you're well placed for both the parks and the boutiques. If you like hotels with a story and a small-hotel feel in a big city, this one is worth a look.
