Wyndham doesn't get the loyalty-program headlines that Hyatt or Marriott do, but its award chart is quietly one of the friendliest around. Nights cost a flat 5,000, 15,000, 30,000 or 45,000 points depending on tier, no dynamic pricing surprises. That fixed pricing means real value on busy dates: one writer nabbed 3.48 cents per point from an award night in Adelaide during an Australian Football League event, against a standard valuation of just 0.55 cents.

The obvious earning route is staying at Wyndham's roughly two dozen brands. Most stays earn 10 points per dollar or a 1,000-point floor, whichever is higher. A few upscale brands, including Wyndham Grand and Dolce, credit points on your entire folio rather than just the room rate. Book direct or via the app, though — third-party bookings generally earn nothing, and a handful of properties like Echo Suites are excluded. New members can even backdate: qualifying stays from the 30 days before enrolment count if your details match the reservation.

Elite status is easy to reach. Gold kicks in after five nights, Platinum at 15 and Diamond at 40, with bonuses of 10% to 20% on base points. A paid "Insider" membership bumps those to 15%, 23% and 30% respectively.

Credit cards are the fast lane. The no-annual-fee Wyndham Rewards Earner currently offers 30,000 points plus 45,000 more after a Wyndham spend; the $95 Earner Plus adds up to 100,000 points across its two-part bonus; and the $395 Earner Premier can yield 120,000 points plus anniversary and five-night bonuses. Cardholders also get award-stay discounts and complimentary elite status.

You don't have to touch a Wyndham hotel at all. Chase, Capital One, Bilt, Citi and HSBC all transfer to Wyndham at 1:1 (Citi at 1:0.7 on no-fee cards), and Wells Fargo transfers at a generous 1:2. Caesars Rewards also converts 1:1 up to 30,000 points a year. Beyond that, there's a long tail of earning options: 1 point per dollar on meetings and events you host, dining rewards of up to 5 points per dollar at linked restaurants, points on Wyndham travel bundles, survey panels, and points on Alamo, Enterprise and National car rentals booked through Wyndham's link.

Why bother? Because a 15,000-point Wyndham night can cover a date when cash rates run $300 or more, and the entry tiers go as low as 5,000 points — cheap by any hotel program's standards. Casual travellers can top up an account almost incidentally through groceries, dining and a transfer when a good redemption appears. Just remember the transfer math: at roughly half a cent per point, Wyndham isn't the best home for premium transferable currencies, so it works best for filling specific, otherwise-expensive nights rather than as a long-term points parking spot.
