A new targeted Amex Offer is doing the rounds for IHG Hotels & Resorts, and it's one of the better hotel deals we've seen from the program in a while. If it appears in your account, you'll get $50 back when you spend $250 or more at IHG properties — across one or more transactions — for up to 20% off.
The spend window runs from November 6 through December 31, 2026, so there's plenty of time to use it, including on stays you may already have booked. Participating properties are spread across the United States, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, Germany, Japan and the UK, which covers a lot of common holiday territory.
A few catches to know before you count the savings. The offer applies to all IHG brands — so everything from Holiday Inn to InterContinental — except a published list of excluded properties. You must book directly with IHG rather than through an online travel agency. Gift cards don't count, nor do reservations paid partly with IHG One Rewards points or purchases of reward points themselves. And crucially, you need to register the offer to your card before paying.
The good news: this stacks. You can combine the Amex credit with any promotion IHG is running itself, including IHG One Rewards global promotions, so the discounts can layer up nicely.
One clever tip from the deal write-up: hotels generally let you split payment across two cards at check-out. If your bill is well over $250, put exactly $250 (or more) on the Amex with the offer attached, then switch the rest to whichever card earns you the best rate on hotel spending — since relatively few Amex cards have strong multipliers for hotels, this can matter on a long or expensive stay.
This is worth a few minutes of your time if you hold any Amex card. Offers are targeted, so log into your account (or check the Amex app under Offers) to see whether the IHG deal is available to you. If it is, register it now even if your trip is months away — offers are time-limited to add, even when the earning window stretches to the end of 2026. Anyone with an upcoming stay at a Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza, Kimpton or InterContinental in the eligible countries is the obvious beneficiary, but even a short domestic booking at a mainstream IHG property clears the $250 threshold easily in most cities.
