Grand Anse gets the postcards — two miles of white sand and most of Grenada's resorts. But a few minutes' drive around the headland sits a beach that regulars argue is the better swim: BBC Beach, officially known as Morne Rouge, on the island's southwest coast.

The bay is compact and almost perfectly curved, hemmed in by green hills. Because it's so sheltered, the water behaves more like a natural swimming pool than the open Caribbean — gentle entry, shallow for a long way out, and on calm days it takes on that still, glassy turquoise you usually only see in lagoons. That makes it a strong pick for proper swimming and floating rather than wave-jumping, and a gentler option for less confident swimmers and kids.

What really defines the place is its low-key setup. There's no resort strip here, no row of loungers. The one fixture is La Plywood, a small, unpretentious bar at the edge of the sand where you can get a cold Carib, something to eat, or a pour of Rivers rum — Grenada's famously strong local firewater. It provides just enough of a social hub without turning the beach into a production. The rhythm of a day here is simple: swim, dry off, drink, swim again.

Part of the appeal is logistical. This isn't a remote cove at the end of a rough road; it sits right in Grenada's main tourism corridor, essentially next door to the island's most famous beach. Yet plenty of visitors never make the short trip around the corner — they stay on Grand Anse and head back to their resort. That's exactly why BBC still feels like a discovery rather than a checklist stop.

For anyone planning a Grenada trip, the easy move is to base yourself near Grand Anse and treat Morne Rouge as your quiet morning or long-afternoon alternate. The two beaches are close enough to combine in a single day, and they offer completely different moods: Grand Anse for energy and amenities, BBC for calm water and space to do very little. Grenada's other beaches — La Sagesse, the wilder northern stretches — are worth exploring too, but BBC is the one that delivers the most reward for the least effort.

Bring a towel, find some shade, and budget a full afternoon. It goes faster than you think.
