Rail fans with a stash of Bilt points finally have a train option. As of September 23, Bilt has added Amtrak Guest Rewards as its 26th transfer partner — and its first ever rail partner. It's a notable comeback for Amtrak, which hadn't partnered with a major transferable currency since Chase Ultimate Rewards dropped it back in 2015.
The mechanics are simple. Link your Amtrak Guest Rewards account in the Bilt app or website, then move points in increments of 1,000 Bilt points, which convert to 500 Amtrak points at a 2:1 ratio. Transfers land almost instantly — handy, given that Amtrak points expire after 24 months of inactivity, so you shouldn't park points there speculatively.
Is it a good deal? It depends. The Points Guy's valuations peg Bilt points at about 2.2 cents each, while Amtrak points would sit around 2.6 cents. On paper, 1,000 Bilt points worth $22 shrink to roughly $13 of Amtrak value, so partners like World of Hyatt or Air Canada Aeroplan usually stretch points further. But the transfer still beats taking Bilt points as rent credits or statement credits — and for topping off an account before a specific train booking, it's genuinely useful.
What can you actually book? Amtrak points cover more than 500 destinations across 46 states and parts of Canada, from quick hops on the Northeast Corridor between Washington, Philadelphia, New York and Boston, to epic long-distance routes like the Empire Builder between Seattle and Chicago. There's no award chart — pricing generally tracks the cash fare, so flexibility on dates pays off. A coach seat on a New York–D.C. Northeast Regional recently went for as little as 938 points (versus $25 cash), while business class on the same run was 9,675 points. On the Empire Builder, a coach seat cost 8,438 points and a private sleeper room 26,813 points — the kind of multi-day cross-country ride where a roomette earns its price.
For travellers, this matters mostly if you already earn Bilt points (typically by paying rent through the Bilt platform) and ride trains even occasionally. Rather than moving a big balance, treat Amtrak as a targeted top-up: find your train, check the points price in the "Use points" search on Amtrak's site, and transfer just enough right before you book. If you're chasing maximum value from Bilt points, hotels and airlines remain the better play.
