Most travellers flying into North Texas rush straight to Dallas or Fort Worth without a second thought. But the suburb of Euless, sitting right between the two, is worth a look in its own right — especially if you want a quieter, cheaper home base with big-city access. It practically touches Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport and is about a 20-minute drive from the downtowns of both cities.
Shopping is one of the town's strong suits. The Shops at Vineyard Village off State Highway 121 packs in dozens of stores plus quick eats like Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers. Bigger still is Glade Parks, a large but walkable open-air plaza with a Target, a Cinépolis cinema, an Aloft by Marriott hotel, an indoor Kids Empire playground for families, and comfort-food favourite Lazy Dog Restaurant & Bar.
Euless also has hundreds of acres of parkland. Right beside Glade Parks, the Preserve at McCormick Park covers nearly 30 acres with a hiking and biking path, picnic spots, two ponds, a boardwalk over wetlands, and a grove of historic trees — including an Alamo Red Oak grown from a cutting taken at the Alamo in San Antonio. Next door, the 40-acre Villages of Bear Creek Park is the town's top-rated attraction on Tripadvisor: a shaded nature trail follows Little Bear Creek with interpretive signage, and there are playgrounds, grills, an amphitheatre and an off-leash dog park. For a dose of history, Heritage Park preserves a restored log cabin dating to the 1850s, among the oldest buildings in town, with free tours on the second Saturday of each month from 1 to 5 p.m.
Golfers are well served too. Texas Star Golf Course is an 18-hole, par-71 municipal championship course spread across 275 acres of woodland and rolling creek-side terrain, praised by Golf Digest and Golfweek; the clubhouse restaurant, Raven's Grille, does hearty Southern food in a ranch-house setting. Two miles away, Westdale Hills is a low-key 9-hole par-3 around a lake, first-come first-served. And near the airport, Bear Creek Golf Club offers two 18-hole par-72 championship courses plus an outdoor dining spot called The Backyard, serving food from a converted Airstream trailer.
The pitch here is simple: skip the big-city hotel prices, park yourself in Euless, and you've got parks, golf and shopping on your doorstep with both downtowns an easy drive away. It suits families, golfers on a budget, and anyone with an early DFW departure who'd rather not brave the metroplex traffic at dawn.
