Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan, the jungle retreat near Ubud famous for its rice-bowl-shaped building suspended over a valley, has completed a redesign of seven suites — five Premier Duplex Suites and two Premier Family Suites — with floor-to-ceiling windows framing the Ayung River below.
The interiors, developed with design firm Hirsch Bedner Associates, lean on Balinese craft: hand-loomed textiles, woven textures and dark stained teak, paired with pale, earthy tones drawn from the surrounding rice terraces. Smart-living touches like Lutron lighting are built in but kept visually quiet, so the view stays the star.
The Duplex Suites run to 85 square metres over two levels, with a dining and living area upstairs from nothing but river valley, and a bedroom layered in timber and fabric, plus a private sun terrace. The Family Suites take a different angle: instead of squeezing in an extra bed, they include a purpose-designed kids' room, and sit in the main building close to the restaurants and the Sacred River Spa — handy when everyone wants different things from the day.
The refresh is also a low-impact one. Rather than demolishing and rebuilding, the resort refurbished the existing structures, sourced new materials locally where possible and prioritised durability. The suites now run on next-generation air conditioning with environmentally responsible refrigerants and energy-efficient LED lighting.
It's part of a broader reset at Sayan. The resort picked up its first Michelin Key in 2025, the relaunched Sacred River Spa earned a Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star rating, and Ayung Terrace's locally focused wine list won a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence. The jungle-view dining spots, Ayung Terrace and Jati Bar, have been restyled too.
For travellers, this is one of Bali's most distinctive luxury stays getting sharper rather than older. If you want a Ubud base where design, nature and family practicality genuinely overlap, the new suites — especially the Family option — make a strong case. General manager Didier Jardin calls it a new era for the property; early bookings in the Duplex suites are the way to see it first.
