For 16 days this November, Hà Nội will hand its most storied corners over to designers, craftspeople and artists. The Hà Nội Festival of Creative Design 2026 runs from November 13-28 under the theme Creative Economy, pulling in roughly 1,000 artisans, artists and creators from 21 countries.
The city's heritage sites and public spaces are the stage. Five zones anchor the programme: Hoàn Kiếm Lake, the Old Quarter, Đồng Xuân – Bắc Qua Market, the Hàng Đậu Water Tower and Thống Nhất Park. Expect around 150 activities — pavilion installations, exhibitions, showcases and workshops — many built around traditional Vietnamese materials and patterns reworked into contemporary design. It's a rare chance to watch lacquer, weaving and craft traditions collide with architecture, tech and fashion in the places that produced them.
This is the festival's fifth year, and the ambition has grown. Organisers describe the shift from a one-off event to an 'urban innovation ecosystem', structured around a Market–City–Craft framework meant to turn heritage and creative skills into jobs and long-term economic value. The tagline — roughly 'uniting talent, creating prosperity' — is not just decoration: the city wants cultural industries to become a real growth engine.
Hà Nội joined the UNESCO Creative Cities Network as a design city in 2019, and UNESCO's Hà Nội office has backed the festival as proof of that identity. The Việt Nam Association of Architects is a core partner, with its president framing architecture as the connective tissue between the capital's craft villages, historic quarters and its creative economy.
For travellers, the timing is ideal. November is one of the pleasant months in northern Vietnam, and the festival effectively packages the city's best sightseeing — the Old Quarter, Đồng Xuân Market, the lake — with pop-up exhibitions and hands-on workshops you won't find the rest of the year. If you've been putting off Hà Nội in favour of Hội An or Hanoi's street-food-only itinerary, this is a good excuse to book. Come for the phở, stay for the installations.
