Taiwan's east coast has entered soaking season. The 2026 Hualien Pacific Hot Spring Season is now running, with the county government throwing its weight behind an autumn programme of mineral baths, light art and small-town wandering through to 15 November. The pitch to international travellers is simple: "Soak into Happiness" in the East Rift Valley, one of the island's most scenic stretches of farmland, mountains and river valleys.

Two hot spring districts anchor the event, and they're marketed as a tale of two waters. Ruisui Hot Spring draws from iron-rich springs that give the water a golden tint — locals call it the "Hero Spring," and the mineral content is what sets it apart from your average thermal soak. Antong Hot Spring, further south along the valley, runs clear and is billed as the "Beauty Spring" for its reputation with skin. Serious soakers tend to pick a side.

For 2026 the county has added extras aimed at visitors from abroad. Expect seasonal light installations after dark, an AR-based stamp-collecting game that doubles as a scavenger hunt across the districts, and themed weekend events. Practicalities have been covered too: shuttle buses link the main transport hubs with the springs and surrounding sights, which matters because public transport in the Rift Valley can otherwise be thin on the ground. Details and updates are on the official site, hotspring.hl.gov.tw.

The timing works in travellers' favour. November in Hualien is cool enough that a hot spring feels earned rather than sweltering, and the valley's rice fields and mountains are at their photogenic autumn best. It's also a chance to see a side of Taiwan that most visitors skip — the east coast gets a fraction of the traffic of Taipei or Sun Moon Lake, and Hualien's food scene, night markets and Pacific coastline make easy add-ons to a soaking trip.

If a hot-spring weekend with light art, shuttle logistics sorted and two very different spring districts to sample sounds like your kind of off-season break, the window is short: everything wraps on 15 November.
