Le Sereno, the all-suite beachfront hotel on St Barth's Grand Cul-de-Sac, is back for the season on November 16 after a three-year transformation by owners Luis and Angelica Contreras — and the changes push everything closer to the sand.

The headline addition is the Suite des Pêcheurs, a one-bedroom waterfront suite of roughly 2,476 square feet. It has two bathrooms, a private pool shaded by a coconut palm, and its own gate straight onto the beach. Inside, Patricia Urquiola furnishings and a sculptural Cenote bathtub continue the hotel's design story — the Contreras family originally worked with Christian Liaigre here and later built Il Sereno on Lake Como. For couples who want villa-style space without a multi-bedroom villa, this is the new benchmark on the island.

Every suite has been redone. Waterfront rooms now get Urquiola-designed canopies for shaded outdoor lounging, and a planting scheme led by Denys Ridrimont adds gardens that screen terraces from the neighbours. One curiosity: a Copernicia fallaensis palm over 32 feet tall, said to be the only one of its kind on St Barth. The main pool terrace has also been redesigned, with a conversation pit, seafront cabanas and a new pool bar.

The hotel has also bought the adjoining beachfront property to launch BOKAO, a new beach club focused on barefoot lunches by the water. Menu details are still to come, but it puts Le Sereno in the same beach-club conversation as Shellona on Shell Beach and Nikki Beach in Saint Jean. The hotel's Italian restaurant, Le Sereno Al Mare, returns in a redesigned open-air space overlooking the lagoon, while the waterfront spa pavilion has been rebuilt in Orosei stone with Valmont treatments, including in-suite options.

Out on the water, a beach restoration project with local authorities and the island's nature reserve has widened the sand in front of the property. The shallow, protected lagoon is made for paddling — the hotel lends out transparent-bottom kayaks and custom paddleboards, and sea turtles are regulars in these waters.

For travellers weighing a St Barth return this winter, Le Sereno now offers more of what people come to Grand Cul-de-Sac for: calm turquoise water, privacy between suites, and lunch without leaving the beach.
