Actor and singer Luke Evans is adding a resort-side twist to his Thai stopover. On 7 November, The Standard, Hua Hin hosts "BDXY Dine At Dusk", an evening that doubles as a launch party for the Welsh star's fashion label and a long, sociable dinner at the hotel's Thai izakaya restaurant, Praça.

Evans, better known for his film roles and singing career than for fashion week appearances, co-founded BDXY with his partner Fran Tomas in February 2024. The brand may be young, but the creative DNA is layered: Evans brings his film-world sensibility, Tomas contributes an architecture background, and celebrity stylist Christopher Brown rounds out the trio as creative consultant. The shared philosophy is timeless design over trend-chasing, with a focus on how a garment feels as much as how it looks.

Swimwear sits at the heart of the label. The founding collection includes the 80s-flavoured "Cameo" swim shorts, the classic-cut "Atmos" briefs, and the "Captain", inspired by the Brazilian sunga. Around those core pieces you'll find T-shirts, underwear and resort-ready accessories. There's a quirky in-joke for film fans, too: every piece is named after a job on a movie set, a nod to the creative world the brand grew out of.

The dinner itself sounds like more than a fashion showcase. Praça will lay out Thai and international favourites, signature dishes, imported oysters, fresh seafood, cold cuts, cheeses and desserts, while DJ James Clark provides the soundtrack with a live percussionist and saxophonist joining in. Organisers have thrown in a round of bingo mid-meal for reasons best described as playful, and the night closes with a fire show on the beach resort's grounds.

For travellers, this is a useful excuse to look at Hua Hin beyond the usual weekend-break framing. The Standard is one of the town's more design-forward hotels, and events like this show how the seaside town, roughly three hours south of Bangkok, is positioning itself as a place for stylish, experience-driven stays rather than just family beach holidays. Even if you can't make the 7 November dinner, The Standard regularly hosts food and music events, and Praça is open to outside guests — worth booking if you're in town.

Who's it for? Fans of Evans, sure, but also anyone planning a Thailand escape who likes the idea of combining a beach resort stay with something a bit more cultural or social. If your trip falls in early November, tickets to the dinner would get you an evening with the founders themselves; if not, Hua Hin's stretch of resorts, night markets and long sands are reason enough to make the trip.
