Four separate award announcements out of the Maldives this month paint a picture of where the country's tourism industry is heading — and give holidaymakers some useful pointers on where to book.
The biggest haul went to Jalboot Group, a marine transport and leisure operator that picked up three honours at the World Luxury Travel Awards, presented at a gala in Bangkok on 24 October. Its Koamas by Jalboot brand won Best Diving Experience in Maldives and Best Water Sport & Activities in Indian Ocean Islands, while the group itself took Best Luxury Water Transfer in the Indian Ocean. That second category matters more than it sounds: with resorts scattered across far-flung atolls, the speedboat or yacht that collects you from Malé airport is often your first real taste of a trip, and increasingly part of the luxury itself. Jalboot runs luxury yacht charters, inter-island transfers and resort-based watersports.
In the capital Malé, the spa at Barceló Nasandhura made the Luxury Lifestyle Awards' Top 100 Spas of the World 2026. Wellness by Mandara sits on level 3 of the hotel and is notable for being an urban spa in a country where wellness is almost always resort-bound. It offers signature multi-hand massage therapies, ELEMIS facials and body treatments, and takes day visitors as well as hotel guests — handy if you're overnighting in Malé before a speedboat or seaplane connection.
Families have a new name to shortlist too. Soneva Fushi, in the Baa Atoll UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, won Excellence in Sustainable Childcare at the Luxury Childcare Association Awards 2026, the only Maldivian property among five category winners. Its children's club, The Den, builds eco-education into play: tree planting, recycled paper-making, scavenger hunts and trips to the resort's Eco Centro, where waste is composted or turned into new products. Add guided nature walks and marine conservation activities, and it's a solid pick for parents who want screen-free, nature-heavy downtime for their kids.
Finally, Heritance Aarah in Raa Atoll took Gold in the Leading All-Inclusive Hotel/Resort category at the South Asian Travel Awards 2026 for its Premium All-Inclusive concept. The resort's food lineup is the headline: seven restaurants and five bars, including Ambula's Sri Lankan-Maldivian menu, the Fehi Raha garden-to-table concept, Ralu Lounge with one of the country's largest rum collections, and an ice cream truck for the kids. There's also an adults-only overwater suite wing with butler service for couples who want to skip the family crowds.
Taken together, the four wins map neatly onto the main reasons people choose the Maldives right now: the transfer-to-dive pipeline, spa culture that's spreading beyond the resorts, genuinely thoughtful childcare, and all-inclusive done at a high level. Whether you're booking a family trip, a dive-focused escape or a couples' retreat, there's an award-winning option for each.
