Reagan National Airport (DCA) has a new reason to arrive hungry. Mi Vida Cantina and Taqueria, a modern Mexican spot from the Washington-area Knead Hospitality group, has opened in Concourse B near Gate B16 — a notable win for travellers who've long treated airport food at DCA as something to endure rather than enjoy.

The restaurant runs daily from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m., which covers everything from the first DC-bound shuttle out to the last delayed evening departure. Breakfast is served until 10 a.m. and leans Mexican: egg and cheese tacos, a Burrito Tejano, or steak and eggs. Later in the day the menu stretches to burritos, grilled salmon Mestiza and a Guajillo smashburger, with starters like tortilla soup, alitas and tatanachos, plus sides of plantains, sweet potato fries and Ana's white rice with refried black beans.

The fundamentals are handled with some care — house-made tortilla chips served with salsa and hand-crushed guacamole — and there's a cocktail list to match, built around margaritas, a Piñada and a Ponche de Lola. If you're sprinting to a connection, take-out is available alongside sit-down service.

What makes this opening interesting beyond the menu is the approach. DCA's concessions team brought in an established local restaurant brand rather than another generic chain, an idea Jackmont Hospitality — which operates the airport location — describes as the next generation of airport dining. Knead Hospitality already has a following in the capital, so travellers get a taste of the city before they've even left the terminal. The Airports Authority frames it as connecting passengers with local flavours while keeping regional businesses in the mix.

For anyone flying through Reagan National, the practical takeaway is simple: if you're departing from Concourse B and have more than twenty minutes to spare, this is now one of the better bets in the terminal. A margarita and fresh guacamole beat a shrink-wrapped sandwich by a comfortable margin, and the long opening hours mean even early risers on the 6 a.m. flight can get a proper taco breakfast instead of a stale muffin.
