Prague Castle has held onto its crown as Europe's most popular castle, according to a fresh ranking from TUI Musement based on accumulated Google reviews. The Czech landmark now counts around 199,000 reviews — 31% more than in 2023 — and given that a single ticket covers St Vitus Cathedral, the Old Royal Palace and Golden Lane, its appeal is easy to explain.
The ranking compared review volumes between 2023 and 2026, and the timing fits the mood. The European Travel Commission reports that culture and heritage are now leading motivations for autumn trips, while TUI Musement's own survey found 94% of travellers want history or heritage experiences on their next city break.
Buckingham Palace takes second place, with the daily Changing of the Guard drawing crowds year-round and the state rooms opening to the public in summer. Vienna's Schönbrunn Palace climbed two spots to third — fitting, as 2026 marks 30 years since its UNESCO World Heritage designation. Versailles, with its Hall of Mirrors and sprawling gardens, sits fourth, while Kraków's Wawel Castle, coronation site of Poland's kings, dropped two places to fifth.
Spain dominates the overall list of 30 with six entries, two of them in the top 10: Granada's Alhambra (sixth), with its Nasrid Palaces, Generalife gardens and Alcazaba fortress, and the Royal Palace of Madrid (seventh), which boosted its review count by 47% since 2023 and still hosts official royal events alongside public visits to the throne room and royal chapel.
London returns at eighth with the Tower of London — scene of Anne Boleyn's execution and home to the Crown Jewels, Yeoman Warders and, of course, the ravens. Neuschwanstein Castle in the Bavarian Alps rose to ninth, drawing visitors into the world of King Ludwig II and his fairy-tale obsessions. Bran Castle in Transylvania rounds out the top 10, trading on its Dracula nickname while also telling the story of a real frontier fortress and royal residence.
The only new face in the full 30 is Buda Castle in Budapest, which earned its spot thanks to a 65% jump in Google reviews since 2023.
