A three-hour walk around Reykjavik eating Icelandic hot dogs, cheese and ice cream has been named the world's best food tour in TripAdvisor's 2026 Travellers' Choice Awards. The ranking is built entirely from traveller reviews and ratings over the past year, so it reflects what people actually enjoyed rather than editorial picks.

The winning Reykjavik Food Walk hits six local stops, from food trucks to fine dining, and makes the case that Icelandic cuisine is more interesting than its reputation suggests. Second place overall goes to a half-day Tuscan wine tasting tour from Florence, which pairs winery visits with olive oil, cheese and cured meats plus a proper Tuscan lunch or dinner.

Europe cleaned up across both food and drink categories. Lisbon's food and wine tour took silver in the food rankings, with Amsterdam, Split, Rome, Osaka, Barcelona, Athens, Paris and Lima rounding out the global top ten. On the drinks side, a Cape Town tour through Paarl, Franschhoek and Stellenbosch with three winery stops claimed the number one spot, ahead of Tuscany, the Douro Valley, Chile's Maipo Valley and a historic pub tour in Prague. Florence appears three times in the wine top ten, and Greece manages two entries thanks to Mykonos and a Santorini sunset tasting with dinner.

Beyond tours, this year's awards also ranked restaurants in categories like fine dining, hidden gems and plant-based dining. A new 'viral right now' list flags the trending spots to know about, including London's Dishoom, Banh Mi Huynh Hoa in Ho Chi Minh City and Bologna's Cremeria Santo Stefano.

If you're the kind of traveller who books a restaurant before a flight, this list is basically a ready-made itinerary. Food tours are also a smart early-trip move: a few hours with a local guide teaches you what to order, where locals eat and how the food culture works, paying off for the rest of your stay. With European cities dominating both lists, a single trip can tick off several entries — Lisbon, Prague and Florence each host more than one ranked experience.
