If you've ever checked out of a hotel and Googled the mattress, you'll understand The Grove's latest move. The five-star Hertfordshire resort has brought in Hypnos — the British bedmaker now in its fifth generation and with more than 120 years of history — to kit out its guestrooms, and the partnership says a lot about what makes this place tick.

The Grove sits on a 300-acre estate of parkland and countryside just outside London, blending 18th-century heritage with a contemporary, family-friendly vibe. Accommodation is split between two very different wings: the historic Mansion, where suites mix antique furniture with original Georgian features like ornate fireplaces, mouldings and curved bay windows, and the modern West Wing, where nature-inspired interiors, tactile fabrics and big windows pull the surrounding landscape indoors. Across both, the bed is deliberately staged as the centrepiece of the room.

And there's plenty to need recovering from. Days here fill up fast: a championship golf course, the award-winning Sequoia spa, woodland trails, the Walled Garden and several restaurants across the resort. With 214 rooms and suites, and the same group also running Luxury Family Hotels, sleep is treated as core infrastructure rather than an afterthought. Group purchasing manager Denise Newson says the partnership was chosen partly because Hypnos shares the resort's focus on responsibly sourced materials and sustainability — a theme The Grove pushes across its community and staff programmes too.

Why does a bed partnership matter to travellers? Because it's a good shorthand for a hotel's priorities. When a property invests in what happens between midnight and breakfast — at a resort where guests are burning energy on the fairway and in the spa — it signals the whole stay has been thought through, not just the Instagrammable bits. If a restful night is your main hotel criterion, The Grove is now making an explicit promise about it.

Beyond the bedding, this is one of the easiest country escapes from the capital: golfers, spa-goers and families with kids in tow are all catered for on one site, and the countryside setting means you can switch off without switching off entirely. It's a strong pick for a weekend reset, a special-occasion treat, or a family break where the adults want spa time and the kids want grounds to run around.
