Toronto's first weekend of October is shaping up busy, with a line-up that mixes free stuff, fall-themed frights and a few good excuses to eat your way across the city. Here's what's on, and where.
If breakfast is your love language, two local names have teamed up at Waterworks Food Hall on Brant Street. Harry's Charbroiled Burgers and Boxcar Social are running a weekend-only breakfast collaboration launching Friday, October 2, from 8 to 11 a.m. Expect bacon and veggie breakfast sandwiches starting at $14.50, plus hash browns, coffee combos and cookies. Orders go through Boxcar Social.
Shopping leans vintage this Friday evening. The Riverside Vintage Crawl runs 6 to 9 p.m. along Queen Street East, with in-store and sidewalk sales at spots like Common Sort, Fevers Vintage and Hogtown Vintage — plus free snacks, DJs and raffle prizes. Entry costs nothing.
Meanwhile, DavidsTea is handing out free matcha and prizes from a pop-up truck around town until October 4, starting at George Brown Polytechnic on Kendal Avenue.
Big events are also on the cards. Phoebe Bridgers brings The Lost Tour to Scotiabank Arena on Friday at 7:30 p.m.; regular tickets are gone but verified resale starts around $132. Over at Marina Quay West on Queens Quay, a new project called Public Pier turns the waterfront spot into a free day-to-night hangout on Friday and Saturday (1 to 11 p.m.), with food markets, DJs and line dancing.
Halloween season is in full swing. Halloween Haunt at Canada's Wonderland in Vaughan runs on select nights until November 1 (6 p.m. to late), with scare zones, haunted mazes including a Conjuring-themed attraction, hundreds of monsters and night rides — tickets from $45 before fees. Out in Etobicoke, Halloween Nights of Lights and Pumpkinville at CF Sherway Gardens lights up over 1.5 million bulbs alongside more than 15,000 real pumpkins, midway rides and seasonal treats, running select dates to November 1. Adult entry starts at $21.99 plus fees; kids at $16.99.
For food beyond breakfast, Chotto Matte on Bay Street has launched a Saturday brunch (11 a.m. to 4 p.m.) with a Nikkei twist — think Millionaire Loaded Tots with truffle Parmesan and glazed bacon, and a Shibuya Toast finished tableside with a flame.
Beauty fans can catch Pov Beauty founder Mikayla Nogueira at a free meet-and-greet at Sephora in the Toronto Eaton Centre on Saturday, October 3, 2 to 4 p.m. — register via Eventbrite for an in-person gift-with-purchase while supplies last.
And if the budget's tight, remember all 10 Toronto History Museums — including Fort York, Spadina Museum and Montgomery's Inn — offer free admission at all times. A cheap, solid way to round out any weekend in the city.
