Virgin Voyages has revised 16 departures for its second Alaska and Pacific coast summer, operated by the Brilliant Lady from Seattle and Vancouver. The line says the tweaks come down to safety, navigation realities and guest feedback — and travellers already booked (or eyeing a sailing) should check what changed.
The headline switch is at the glaciers. Thirteen sailings will now cruise Endicott Arm and Dawes Glacier instead of Tracy Arm Fjord, where ongoing landslide risk has made navigation unreliable. Dawes Glacier is a strong substitute — expect dramatic calving and iceberg-strewn water — so most guests will likely consider this an upgrade in reliability if not in name.
Prince Rupert is out on 12 sailings, replaced by Victoria, British Columbia. After guest feedback, Virgin is promising a full day there, which means time for the Inner Harbour, the historic downtown around Government Street, and attractions like the Royal BC Museum without rushing back to the ship. It also makes evening departure logistics easier than smaller Canadian ports.
Smaller adjustments include Inside Passage cruising now being labelled as a sea day on itineraries, revised tender port arrangements, and retimed calls at Juneau, Sitka and Icy Strait Point. Two sailings have specific quirks worth noting: the August 24, 2027 departure leaves Victoria at 6:00 PM due to harbour restrictions, and the September 10 voyage drops its Astoria call because of Vancouver tidal navigation windows — in exchange, the ship spends more time in San Francisco, and affected guests get a $33 per person refund of Astoria's port taxes and fees.
Virgin wrapped up its first-ever Alaska season in 2026 and is clearly using what it learned to tighten the 2027 program. The ship, voyage lengths and onboard experience stay the same; it's the ports and scenic routes that move.
For travellers, this matters if you booked a 2027 Alaska sailing on Brilliant Lady — verify your itinerary before booking shore excursions.
